Fan Sneaks First Look At 2019 Mustang Bullitt Engine

Fan Sneaks First Look At 2019 Mustang Bullitt Engine

In January, Ford unholstered the third iteration of the Mustang Bullittt, a car that pays tribute to the automotive star of the movie, Bullitt, which features one of the most iconic chase scenes in cinema history. Thus far, Ford has shared many details about the car, but had yet to show its engine.

We know the car is set to wear the Shelby GT350 cold-air intake, intake manifold, and throttle body. Paired with a unique calibration, the tuned-up Coyote 5.0-liter is said to bump up the power to 475 horsepower and propel it to 163 MPH. However, since the car is still in its pre-production stages, Ford has been coy about showing off its engine.

A member of the Mustang6G forum got a peek under the under the hood of a pre-production 2019 Mustang Bullitt and it reveals what we expected to see — a complete Shelby GT350 induction system atop the latest Coyote 5.0-liter engine. (Photo Credit: Stang Nut/Jason)

Somehow a Mustang enthusiast attending the Atlanta International Auto Show convinced the Ford reps on site to pop the hood on a show car wearing a TT018 dash plaque. This indicates the car is a “tool tryout” model that is built around four months prior to production vehicles rolling out of the plant.

“I was shocked they let me in there and even more shocked they opened the hood for me,” Stang Nut/Jason posted on a sixth-generation Mustang forum.

The photos also show a strut-tower brace with a Bullitt plaque. There doesn’t seem to be a unique Bullitt badge on the engine, but that could change by the time the production cars arrive.

What this peek under the hood revealed isn’t really a huge surprise. The Gen3 Coyote in the Bullitt basically wears the Ford Performance Parts’ Power Pack 3, but we aren’t yet sure whether the throttle body uses the latest SENT strategy or if the Bullitt-specific calibration adapts the analog GT350 throttle body controls to the latest PCM.

Other than that, the only remaining question is to find out what driving this car is like and we can’t wait.
