In a recent press release issued by Ford Motor Company on August 19th, they detailed their plans to continue production of the Ford GT supercar by an additional two years – “bringing the production commitment of the carbon fiber supercar to a total of four years,” the press release detailed. The release also shed some light on what some customers may be concerned about, and that is their purchase application. “Potential customers who already applied to purchase a Ford GT will only need to update their request when the next application window reopens in early 2018.”
The goal of the extended production is an interest by Ford Motor Company to continue participation in both the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) and the World Endurance Championship (WEC) series. Dave Pericak, the global director for Ford Performance, explained that they won’t be able to build enough Ford GTs for everyone that applies – but they are producing more cars so that more of us have an opportunity to own them.
At the same time however, Pericak does admit, “We want to keep the Ford GT exclusive. Year three of production will support applicants who were placed on the wait list; previously deferred applicants and those who missed the initial application window will be served by production year four,” the press release continued.
“The application process for fourth-year production will reopen in early 2018. Those who already applied to own the car will only need to update their request.”
