The Competition Series is available in six Ford GT colors, including Shadow Black, Frozen White, Ingot Silver, Liquid Blue, Liquid Grey and Triple Yellow. And, if you haven’t already spec’d yours out, it can be ordered as part of all the announced production model years.

The production Ford GT is already the fastest Ford ever produced. Sitting still, it looks faster than most cars on the road. However, for those who want something even lighter and faster, the Blue Oval has just introduced the Competition Series option, which is said to remove topside weight and lower the center of gravity for improved performance.

“The Ford GT has racing in its blood,” Raj Nair, Ford executive vice president, global product development, and chief technical officer, said. “The Competition Series was developed with the most hardcore track enthusiasts in mind, providing a tailored set of lightweight features and unique livery to match.”

Setting the Competition Series model apart from your average Ford GT are a host of performance-oriented upgrades, including a lightweight Perspex acrylic engine hatch cover with integrated vents and bulkhead Gorilla Glass. The car is adorned with a host of lightweight carbon fiber goodies, including the racing stripes, side mirrors, and A-pillars. Inside the Comp cars is dressed up in Alcantara suede with red accents and exposed carbon trim. Light gear like carbon fiber wheels and titanium lug nuts and titanium exhaust, are standard on the Competition Series cars.

Core to this high-performance diet is nixing the creature comforts, including the air conditioning, radio and speakers, stowage bins and even the cupholders! Ford Performance goes further by installing a lightweight, vented Perspex acrylic engine hatch cover with a manual latch and carbon fiber prop rod. It also features a thinner, Gorilla glass bulkhead window to shave more weight.

For further weight savings, Ford relies heavily (pun intended) on carbon fiber. On the outside the Comp car wears exposed A-pillars, carbon racing stripes, mirror carps and lower body trim Inside, the interior is full of carbon bits, including a radio-delete center console and more.

All told, these upgrades deliver the 3,045-pound base weight initially quoted by Ford.

If you are on hand at the Daytona 500 this weekend, you can head over to the Ford display on the outside of Turn One to check the Competition Series GT out in person. For those not in Daytona, you can spec one out virtually on the official site right here.
