Is Adding MagneRide A Smart 2018 Mustang Option?

The 2018 Mustang is loose in the wild, and enthusiasts and performance shops around the country are hard at work trying to find out just how much usable power can be extracted from not only the new dual-fuel Coyote engine but also the EcoBoost variant of America’s favorite Pony car. While adding more power is always a popular first choice, choosing the right suspension setup from the start can often make or break a particular build.

For 2018 Mustang owners, having the luxury of adding an active suspension straight from the factory can not only be a cost-effective option but allows owners to adjust your suspension of the fly while remaining behind the wheel. But what exactly is the MagnaRide suspension, and how does it work? Luckily, our friends at AmericanMuscle put together this informative video that breaks down all the advanced suspension technology that is now being offered on the 2018 model year Mustangs.

2018 Mustang MagneRide Benefits

• Automatically adjusts to road surface

• Rapid response to any road condition

• Maximum handling and feel

• Safe and secure even when towing

• Smooth ride quality

• Fewer components than traditional damping system

“MagneRide is basically the brand name for the adaptive suspension system that was originally developed by Delphi Automotive dating all the way back to 2002,” Justin Dugan, of AmericanMuscle, explained. “The Mustang joined the MagneRide party back in 2015 with the inclusion of the adaptive suspension found on the GT350 and GT350R.”

For 2018, Ford made that active suspension option available for both the EcoBoost and Mustang GT models. Available as a $1,700 option, the MagnaRide Dampening System (Option code: 96B) features three adaptive drive modes allowing users to fully adjust their suspension preference from Normal, Sport, and Track mode at the flick of a switch.

For around $1,700 bucks, to get something that you can actually change on the fly. — Justin Dugan, AmericanMuscle

“One of the nice things about MagneRide is you get this kind of adjustability on the fly,” said Justin. “For around $1,700 bucks, to get something that you can actually change on the fly from the comfort of the driver’s seat is definitely money well spent.”

We think Justin does a great job breaking down the MagneRide system and gives prospective new car owners some critical information that may help with deciding if this upgrade is right for your next Mustang. But, what are your thoughts on the MagnaRide Dampening System available on the 2018 Mustang? Is it something you would consider when ordering your next pony car?
