Looking Back At The First Year Of Focus RS RX Competition

In just nine months, Ford Performance, Hoonigan Racing Division and M-Sport developed a competitive machine for the FIA World Rallycross Championship series. Last season Ken Block and Andreas Bakkerud combined for seven podiums and three wins to place third in the Driver’s Championship in the Focus RS RX’s first year of competition. Now, Ford Performance is looking back at that whirlwind ride in advance of the 2017 season.

“Follow the first year of the Focus RS RX development,” says the video description. “Designed and built in less than one year by Ford Performance, M-Sport, and Hoonigan Racing Division, the Focus RS RX was competitive from the first event.”

After a promising first season in 2016, Ken Block and Andreas Bakkerud of Hoonigan Racing Division will look to have more success in FIA World Rallycross with the Focus RS RX.

While some of this footage was highlighted in shorter clips previously released by Ford Performance, this documentary lasts over 16 minutes and includes more detail on the freshman season.

“This project has been probably the most dynamic involvement of my team in a car like this,” Ken Block, Ford Focus RS RX Race Driver, Hoonigan Racing Division, said last year when the Focus RS RX debuted. “Trying to race at the highest level of the sport and doing it with factory help and with a race shop like M-Sport has been incredible.”

The first season certainly showed a lot of promise, but we expect the team to squeeze even more performance out of these cars in 2017. Ken, Andreas and their pair of Focus RS RX racers will return to FIA World Rallycross in Barcelona, Spain, at the Circuit de Catalunya on March 31.
