Video: How To Install An MGW Shelby GT350 Shifter

The 6-speed manual transmission found in the 2015-plus Shelby GT350/GT350R is a modified version of the Tremec TR-3160, and it’s one heck of a stout option. Upon delivery to Ford, these transmissions went through an extensive upgrade process in order to meet the demands of on-track abuse that the manufacturers knew these Shelby Mustangs would be exposed to often.

In addition to the changes we covered in another segment, some of those upgrades included the use of an all-new shifter assembly; which, from the factory, entailed what Ford said are “aggressive rail detents” used to provide the driver a more satisfying shifting experience. And while we think the factory shifter assembly does indeed work well – we also think there is always room for improvement, too.

Our friends at MGW Shifters are currently in the works of developing its all-new shifter solution for the 2015-plus Shelby GT350/GT350R Mustang models. However, that didn’t stop them from releasing its latest tech video for our viewing pleasure. The video spans just shy of 17 minutes and covers the entire installation from start to finish.

If you’ve ever installed an aftermarket shifter assembly on a 2005-plus Mustang that uses a remote style shifter, it’s a very similar endeavor – requiring only a few hours of your time, and can be accomplished in your home garage using a lift or a jack and a pair of jack stands. We’re pretty stoked for this new assembly, and we hope to bring you a full install article soon. Until then, check out this video from our friends at MGW Shifters, and let us know what you think.
