Will The Next Shelby GT500 Bang Gears With An Auto Or A DCT?

Last month, we witnessed some of the first spy shots of the 2020 Shelby GT500 driving on the street without the black concealment bra we usually see on many of the prototype vehicles. The pics gave enthusiasts a closer look at many of design cues that might be offered when the final production car is officially unveiled to the general public.

While there is no way of truly knowing whether or not the car we witnessed in the spy photos is the actual GT500, it was hard not to get excited about the aggressive body lines that seemed to match those seen on the car in Ford’s official teaser video.

This week another spy video got our hearts racing. Could the 2020 Shelby GT500 feature a 10-speed automatic or a dual-clutch transmission?

As you can see from this spy photo, the hood vents are some of the most aggressive we have seen on a production Ford. But will they make it on the actual GT500? (Photo credit: Michigan Car Spotting)

Previous photos appeared to show a manual shifter poking through the tunnel, but if you listen carefully to the video above, this prototype vehicle shifts unlike any manual transmission we have ever heard, and the internet seems to think it’s the sweet sounds of a DCT, which makes us wonder if that shift handle was just a decoy. Or, perhaps, a self-shifter will be optional?

One thing’s for sure, this car has an aggressive exhaust note, which matches what has been touted as the most powerful production Mustang to date.

The most recent spy shots also give us a closer look at the massive hood vents on this prototype. They make perfect sense for a production vehicle that will come with a 700-plus-horsepower supercharged V8 that needs to release considerable underhood heat.

After watching this video, what stands out to you? Do you think this vehicle will be offered with a DCT, a tuned up 10R80 auto, or a tried-and-true manual?
