Santa Ditches His Sleigh For A Mustang Instead

With the holiday festivities gearing up, Santa is surely getting his sleigh packed and ready for the big night that’s just days away. With more than 7 billion people on earth to deliver gifts to though, it might be time for Santa to trade in his sleigh for something a bit…quicker. Maybe like say, a Ford Mustang or GT500?

It looks like Santa may have taken our advice, as Torque News posted this picture from James Varouis of ol’ St. Nick rocking a red Shelby this Christmas season. Not that this would be the first time Kris Kringle ditched his sleigh for something a bit sleeker.

santa-ecoboost-628In fact, sticking Santa into a Mustang around Christmas has become something of a tradition in and of itself. A quick Google search of “Santa in a Mustang” reveals dozens of relevant results. While most of these images are fan-made, Ford has also gotten into the spirit in recent years with concepts like the EcoBoost-powered sleigh. Then there are the more three-dimensional tributes to Santa and the Mustang, including homes decorated with St. Nick in his favorite pony car and plenty of real life Santas rocking classic pony cars in the real world.

Interestingly enough, neither the Chevy Camaro nor Dodge Challenger seem to have the same Santa schtick going on. The Mustang is far and away the most popular alternative to Santa’s sleigh, which could be owed to the Ford’s more global appeal. With the sixth-generation, the Mustang is now a truly global vehicle, available in many of Ford’s biggest markets. For a guy like Santa Claus, global appeal is a big deal.

Why Santa is rocking a previous-generation GT500 we don’t know, though it could be he needs that 662 horsepower to get through all that gift-giving in a single night. Or maybe St. Nick is just a Shelby fan.
