SEMA 2019: Drake Muscle Cars Goes All Out On S550 Mustang Exterior

There’s no denying that the S550 Mustang — especially the 2018-and-up bodystyle — have some extremely attractive lines. Of course, even the best looking vehicle has room for improvement, and in that vein, Drake Muscle Cars has set out to improve on the exterior of the S550.

“This year, we’ve focused on the exterior styling for the 2018-plus S550 Mustang,” said Kris Horton, Creative Design and Media Manager of Drake Automotive Group. “We’ve got a flat-blade splitter, front lip spoiler, front dive planes, front turn signal covers, grille inserts, and hood vent inserts which replace the stock ones.”

The new lines the modified components create are carried through the sides and to the rear of the S550 as well. “We also make a side-splitter and rear splitter to match our front blade and lip spoiler, which all attach to factory mounting points and install in minutes,” Horton related.

“Then we have our one-piece diffuser that goes under the back, which is currently only available for Performance Pack GTs, but additional fitments will be coming soon. We manufacture a tail panel that mounts in the factory location and has the factory finish to match your taillight trim, and is actually an OEM piece on the new Shelby GTs.”

Moving to the less subtle components, Drake also offers an aggressive rear spoiler which seems to have really resonated with late-model Mustang owners. “One of our most popular new products is the S550 wicker-bill-style spoiler. It’s a full spoiler and comes with the Lexan flap and custom machined hardware to mount it in the factory location,” explained Horton.

Moving to the wheels, an interesting set of split-five-spoke wheels were in the Drake Booth. “We also own the Carroll Shelby Wheel Company. This wheel is our first 19-inch wheel designed in house. It’s called the CS5 and is a 19×11 in the rear, and a 19×9.5 in the front,” Horton revealed.

Starting with a single restoration part to now having over 9,000 part numbers in its catalog, Drake Muscle Cars has come a long way. They have also come a long way from reproducing OEM parts, now putting their own spin on vehicle styling. You can see the entire Drake lineup on the web HERE.
