For the 2013 model year the Ford Fusion got a handsome makeover that made this midsize sedan a real standout in its field, and the 2017 refresh has sharpened the Fusion’s exterior aesthetic without messing with success. Go beyond skin deep though, and you’ll find that the 2017 Ford Fusion holds a lot more to recommend it, including a 325 horsepower Sport model that pairs an EcoBoost V6 with all-wheel drive.
Add to that an all-new range-topping Platinum trim and two hybrid powertrain options, and the 2017 Fusion may just be the most well-rounded midsize sedan on the market.
Fitting the 2.7 liter “Nano” EcoBoost V6 mill into an engine bay built primarily to cradle four-cylinder mills must have been no easy feat. But the resulting vehicle harkens back to the days of the original Taurus SHO, which was a midsize sedan (rather than the large and on-its-way-out Taurus of today). Pairing the 325 horsepower EcoBoost engine with all-wheel drive also fixes the problem of grip that plagued the original SHO. The 2017 Fusion Sport is taking no prisoners in the midsize market, and it probably wouldn’t take much to boost the engine up to an even 400 ponies (like its Lincoln MKZ cousin).
Joining the Fusion Sport is the all-new Fusion Platinum model, which builds on Ford’s success with a blinged-out trim level that first started on the F-150 In addition to a 2.0 liter EcoBoost engine and all-wheel drive, the Fusion Platinum adds a more luxurious driving experience thanks to instrument and door panels wrapped in Cocoa leather, a steering-wheel wearing Venetian leather, a unique grille and 19-inch wheels to top it all off.
Looks like Ford is really paying attention to fans, because a sportier Fusion was exactly what fans have been asking for.
