Simply put, there are levels to this. Generally, bolt-on modifications don’t require supporting mods. Once you break out of the “bolt-on” and “street tire” phase, supporting mods definitely start needing to become a thing.
One of those parts commonly needed to be upgraded is your axles. The OEM axle’s cast construction is weak, cheap, and easy to mass produce, but can handle stock power levels no problem–and work just fine for people running street tires with typical bolt-on mods. Once you throw some sticky tires on the car, that’s when things start getting sketchy. With that extra grip from drag racing tires, something’s got to give, and more often than any other components: it’s an OEM half-shaft.
If you’re planning on throwing on nitrous, a supercharger, a turbo, or even two *wink*, this is another time you should definitely replace your OE half-shafts with a stronger, upgraded aftermarket version. Because of their highly sought after instant torque delivery, positive displacement style superchargers are a major half-shaft killer. At the end of the day, if you’re running a power adder or taking your car to the strip anytime soon–now’s the time to look into junking your OE setup.
A leader in the automotive aftermarket axle world, GForce, has not only completely overhauled its axle lineup for the 2019 year, but has also brought along some new additions to their product offerings. Recently, they have noticed increased demand for durable axles from modern consumers and performance shops across the country.
But, fear no more, high horsepower builds! GForce’s lineup of axles is said to withstand even the most extreme applications. “In today’s climate, we have to provide the customer a better product for their money–one that can handle power levels never conceived of even 10 years ago. And, we need to do this while ensuring a fair price point,” said Jesse Powell, GForce Engineering President. “This is the first step in elevating our offerings.”
With the industry’s largest diameter and strongest axle bars, the Outlaw axle is among the most popular products in GForce’s array of offerings. The flagship CV half-shaft features complete CNC-machined one-piece inner and outer stubs, and received a few major upgrades during their 2019 overhaul.
The upgrades started with polished CVs inside and out, providing reduced friction, reduced heat build-up and improved wear characteristics. Other enhancements include the addition of the infamous ARP fasteners and an internal alloy upgrade for even more strength. These improvements made the newly refreshed Outlaw axle the strongest bolt-on CV possible.
With the recent discontinuation of their stock replacement 850HP LP axles, GForce has also introduced a more capable Renegade line – offering benefits similar to the high-end Outlaw line, at a lower price point. While they sit at a slightly higher MSRP than their predecessor, it’s said that consumers can expect to receive a significantly better and stronger axle set for their money.
Applications are available for the Big 3 muscle cars: Dodge Charger, Challenger, Magnum, and Chrysler 300C; S550 Mustang; and Cadillac CTS-V, Corvette, GTO, G8, fifth- and sixth-gen Camaro.
