New Ford Ranger vs Used EcoBoost F-150: Which Is The Better Buy?

Let’s face it. Purchasing a fully loaded new model year pickup truck in 2019 has gotten a bit out of control. And we are not just talking about flagship vehicles like the Ford Raptor or the soon to be released 2020 Super Duty.

Even Ford’s new Ranger when adequately equipped can quickly run you well over the $30k mark for a smaller mid-size vehicle.

Well, it appears that Justin Dugan and the team at AmericanTrucks shares our pricing concerns on America’s best selling truck and have released a very informative video which directly addresses many of these issues.

In the video, Justin puts their newest project vehicle, the 2019 Ford Ranger XLT CrewCab, against a slightly used EcoBoost F-150 and asks the big question: given the same purchase cost, which truck would you buy – a used F-150 or a brand-new Ford Ranger?

With the return of the Ranger, a lot of people rejoiced…that is until they saw the price tag… – Justin Dugan, AmericanTrucks

“With the return of the Ranger, a lot of people rejoiced…that is until they saw the price tag,” said Justin. “The reaction we saw is that for the same amount of money, an overwhelming number of truck enthusiasts would prefer a used F-150 instead.”

In true AmericanTrucks fashion, Justin does a superb job of comparing both of these popular Blue Oval vehicles including ground clearance, miles per gallon, interior comforts, and even bed lengths.

While there is no denying the fact that the F-150 does has some advantages over the smaller size Ranger, you might be surprised that the comparison between the two vehicles is a lot closer than it may appear.

After watching the entire eight-minute comparison video, we initially were still sold on going with a slightly used F-150 for the price. But after checking out the newly announced Ford Ranger dealer incentives here, it now appears that Ford is ready to give mid-size truck enthusiasts a bit of a price break.

The cash back incentives now include a $299.00 a month for 36-month lease or the $500.00 cash back and $1,500.00 Competitive Conquest Bonus Cash on in-stock 2019 Rangers.

And if you happen to be lucky enough to qualify for any of Ford’s additional offers for military veterans, first responders, and even college students, these start to put a dent in the hefty new truck price tag.

We are big fans of the new Ranger, and the dealer incentives are enough of a drop in price that many of us here have started keeping an eye on the mighty Ranger to see if Ford has any additional discounts planned for this EcoBoost vehicle as we get closer to the end of the year.

But which Ford truck do you think is a better buy in 2019? Hit us up in the comments below with your thoughts.
