If you’re up-to-date on the world of Mustangs, then you already know we reported on the special edition Petty’s Garage-built 2017 Mustang GT up for auction at Mecum in Kissimmee. That vehicle was a one-of-one iteration built to be auctioned off at the Mecum Auctions to benefit the Paralyzed Veterans of America foundation. It seems as if the special edition Richard Petty Mustang models are here to stay, as the example above brought to us by Interstate Ford is serial number four of a mere 43 examples to be produced.
The above model—built exclusively in honor of The King’s 80th birthday—sports a set of Forgeline Motorsports SC3C-L wheels and a host of noteworthy upgrades, including a Whipple level 3 supercharger kit good for more than 825 horsepower. Throughout a three-year process, the 2017 Petty’s Garage 80th Tribute Edition Ford Mustang GT was built in collaboration with Petty’s Garage, Forgeline Motorsports and Ford Motor Company.
“This is a true honor for us, as Richard Petty is the most accomplished driver in the history of NASCAR racing,” Forgeline Motorsports President David Schardt said. “As such, ‘The King’ knows that only extremely light yet unquestionably strong wheels can truly complement such a vehicle as this very special limited run of 80th Tribute Edition Mustang GTs. We’re very proud our wheels were selected by one of the most respected figures in motorsports.”
It’s easy to see why the folks at Petty’s Garage teamed up with Forgeline Motorsports to provide this 800-plus horsepower Mustang with the strongest, billet aluminum wheels available.
