Rally driver Ben Collins became the center of an international media frenzy when it was revealed that he was in fact the famous Stig from the BBC’s Top Gear motoring show. Since being outed as the Stig, Collins has become somewhat more famous, writing a tell-all book and showing up on a lot more Internet videos than before his secret identity was revealed.
His latest effort has the professional rally racer and former Stig walking viewers through the four driving modes of the 2016 Ford Focus RS, from ho-hum “Normal” to the Ken Block-approved “Drift” mode.
The video starts out with Collins commenting on the quiet poise of the Focus RS in Normal mode, though you can tell that this is a car begging to be let loose. Upping the ante to Sport mode increases feedback to the steering and alters the all-wheel drive system to provide better traction and more power. For the next two driving modes though, Collins leaves public roads behind in preference of the race track.
Here, Collins engages Track mode, which firms up the suspension and allows the driver to extract the most performance from the Focus RS. This is where most companies would stop, but Ford added one more driving mode, Drift mode, which applies most of the power and torque to the rear wheels, allowing anybody to effortlessly kick the backend out in a controlled manner. Not even Collins can contain his excitement as the 350 horsepower hot hatch makes drifting look easy.
We’d say Ford made the right move by adding the drift mode. It’s like they’re begging you to hoon the hell out of this hot hatch.
