Bullitt Mustang Production Will Extend Beyond 2019

When Ford announced the 50th anniversary edition 2019 Bullitt Mustang at the North American International Auto Show earlier this year, it took the world by storm. Getting the chance to own a vehicle based on the iconic 1968 Bullitt movie car had car collectors and enthusiasts alike scrambling to be a part of this iconic piece of Ford history.

“This new Bullitt is, as Steve McQueen was, effortlessly cool,” Darrell Behmer, Mustang chief designer, said at the time. “As a designer, it’s my favorite Mustang – devoid of stripes, spoilers, and badges. It doesn’t need to scream about anything – it’s just cool.”

Everything Ford put into this tribute car screams iconic muscle. From the available Dark Highland Green exterior paint to the upgraded 5.0-liter V8 engine backed by a manual transmission, Bullitt was built to be the ultimate driver’s car.

But how long will that driver’s car be around? News out of the Great White North says that the latest Bullitt will be limited, but not restricted to just one model year like the 2001 model, but will run across multiple years like its 2008-2009 predecessor.

It’s just a total sensory experience when you get in the vehicle and drive it. — Shannon White, Ford Canada

In an interview with Title magazine, Shannon White, product marketing manager for Ford Canada, confirmed that the 50th anniversary Bullitt production run will span multiple years — 2019 and 2020 — with availability in Canada and the United States only.

Shannon also discussed the role new technology plays in the design of the limited-edition Mustang.

“It’s really a perfect marriage of the design cues of the past with the technology and performance of today,” she said.  “It’s just a total sensory experience when you get in the vehicle and drive it.”

Even though pricing has yet to be revealed on the iconic muscle car, the warm reception it received during its debut hints that Ford dealerships will receive plenty of calls once the order banks open, but if you don’t score a 2019, you can try to reload in 2020.
